Cairn Energy’s Norwegian subsidiary Capricorn Norge has received consents from the offshore safety body, the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA), for exploration drilling in the Norwegian Sea.

The PSA granted consents for exploration drilling of two wells, designated 6508/1-3 and 6608/11-9, in the Norwegian Sea.

The first consent relates to well 6508/1-3 located in production license 758 in a prospect named Lynghaug, where Capricorn is the operator. The company holds 50 percent ownership interest while its partners are Lundin with 20 percent and Skagen44 with 30 percent interest.

The second is for well 6608/11-9 located in production license 842 in a prospect named Godalen, also operated by Capricorn. Capricorn holds a 40 percent interest in the license with the two partners Aker BP and Skagen 44 holding 30 percent each.

Both wells will be drilled by Transocean Arctic, a semi-submersible mobile drilling rig of the Marosso 56 type, built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan in 1987. The rig is owned by Transocean and received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in July 2004.

As for the schedule for the two wells , Lynghaug is expected to be spud in the third quarter of 2019 while Godalen is expected to be spud in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Capricorn also awarded a two-well contract in the Norwegian North Sea to the Transocean Arctic rig earlier this year . The work is scheduled to start in May and end in July 2019.

It is worth reminding that CHC will provide a Sikorsky S-92 helicopter in support of Capricorn’s operations at Lynghaug and Godalen. Capricorn awarded a deal to CHC for the provision of helicopter services in early May 2019 .
