DEME Offshore has selected Global Energy Group to provide the Port of Nigg as a staging port for the Moray East offshore wind farm.
Under the contract, the Port of Nigg will be used for receiving the completed turbine jacket foundations destined for the 950MW project.
“Using Nigg for jackets complements our previous announcement of the Port of Cromarty Firth as an intermediate port for turbines,” said Marcel Sunier , Project Director for Moray East.
“The installation of subsea substructures from Nigg combined with the installation of turbines from Invergordon shows how a complete onshore cluster to deliver the offshore works has been established in Easter Ross.”
Global Energy has also announced a planned GBP 10-15 million investment for expanding the quayside availability and adjacent yard space at the Port of Nigg.
DEME Group is the EPCI contractor for Moray East turbine foundations and three offshore substation foundations, and is in charge of the transport and installation of the OSS topsides.
The 950MW offshore wind project will comprise 100 MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines scheduled to be fully operational in 2022.
