GEDI, a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group, has completed the installation of foundations on the 198MW Guangdong Yudean Zhanjiang Wailuo wind farm offshore China’s Guangdong Province.

In total, GEDI (Guangdong Electric Power Design & Research Institute), the EPC contractor for the project, installed 36 single-pile foundations at the site.

This is the first time that large-diameter single-pile wind turbine foundation scheme was adopted in Guangdong Province, China Energy said. A single pile has the maximum diameter of 7 metres and the maximum weight of 1000 tons.

The foundations will support the wind farm’s MySE5.5/7.0MW semi-direct drive wind turbines, the first of which was installed in January.

Zhanjiang Wailuo is China’s first offshore wind project to be built with the general EPC contracting method.

The project is located in the offshore area to the east of Xinliao Island and Wailuo, Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City.
