The price of spot liquefied natural gas contracted in Japan edged up slightly during the month of May while the arriving LNG prices continued the decline.
Data from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) shows the contract-based price bumped up to $5.4 per mmBtu, a 3.9 percent increase from the April price.
Compared to May 2018 when the price was at $8.2 per mmBtu this represents a 34.1 percent drop.
The arrival-based prices slipped 10.1 percent from April to May. The price dropped from $5.9 per mmBtu to $5.3 per mmBtu during the month under review.

Only spot LNG cargoes are taken into account in this assessment, excluding short, medium and long-term contract cargoes, as well as those linked to a particular price index.
