The Hague-based LNG giant Shell on Tuesday said that the first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has sailed from its Prelude FLNG facility located 475 km North East of Broome in Western Australia.
This shipment will be delivered by the 174,400-cbm Valencia Knutsen to customers in Asia, Shell said in a statement.
Maarten Wetselaar , Integrated Gas and New Energies Director said, “Prelude forms an integral part of our global portfolio and plays an important role in meeting the growing demand for more and cleaner energy for our customers around the world.”
The Prelude FLNG facility is operated by Shell in joint venture with Inpex (17.5 percent), Kogas (10 percent) and OPIC (5 percent).
The company opened the wells in the fourth quarter last year, supplying gas to the Prelude FLNG, the largest of its kind.
The FLNG facility is expected to stay moored at the Prelude gas field offshore Western Australia for 25 years. It is designed to produce 3.6 mtpa of LNG, 1.3 mtpa of condensate and 0.4 mtpa of LPG for export.
