Vattenfall has submitted the Norfolk Boreas Development Consent Order (DCO) application to the UK Planning Inspectorate.
The application was submitted by Norfolk Boreas Limited on 11 June. The Planning Inspectorate has 28 days to review the application and decide whether or not to accept it. The acceptance decision on this application should therefore be made by Tuesday 09 July.
Should the application be accepted for examination, Vattenfall anticipates hearings to follow in late 2019 and early 2020, with a decision to follow in the summer of 2020.
Norfolk Boreas is a 1.8GW capacity project located adjacent to sister project Norfolk Vanguard . It covers 725km2 and is approximately 72km off the Norfolk coast at its nearest point.
The project will feature up to 180 wind turbines with a minimum individual capacity of 10MW. The wind turbines will be installed on fixed bottom foundations as the option for the floating tension-leg structures is no longer being considered in accordance with a general preference expressed by stakeholders, Vattenfall said.
The project would meet the equivalent electricity needs of 5% of UK households – around 1.3 million homes, according to Vattenfall.
