Pioneering Spirit, a giant heavy lift and pipelay vessel owned by Allseas, has recently removed Shell’s Brent Bravo topsides from its location in the UK sector of the North Sea.
Located 186 km off the northeast coast of the Shetland Islands, the Brent Bravo platform comprised a topsides structure supported by three 12 m diameter steel-reinforced concrete legs, which stand in 140 m of water.
The Brent Bravo topside – weighing 25,000 t – was the second of four to be removed by the Pioneering Spirit from the Brent field. The first one was Brent Delta in 2017.
As previously reported, the vessel removed the Brent Bravo topsides on Tuesday morning . The operation took approximately four hours, from positioning the vessel around the platform to the moment of the lift. The actual “fast lift” of the topsides took only nine seconds.
The topsides will be dismantled at Able UK’s yard.
