The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Aker BP a drilling permit for a wildcat well, which is located in the Norwegian Sea.
The well 6608/6-1 will be drilled from the Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig, the NPD said on Thursday.
The drilling program for well 6608/6-1 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 762. Aker BP is the operator with an ownership interest of 20 percent.
Other licensees are Equinor Energy with 60 percent and Petoro with 20 percent. The area in this license consists of parts of blocks 6608/6, 6608/9, 6609/4 and 6609/7. The well will be drilled about 60 kilometers northeast of the Norne field.
Production licence 762 was awarded on February 7, 2014, in APA 2013. This is the first exploration well to be drilled in the license.
The drilling permit is contingent on the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to starting the drilling activity.
