The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Capricorn Norge, Cairn Energy’s Norwegian subsidiary, a drilling permit for a well located in the Norwegian Sea.

The wll 6508/1-3 will be drilled from the Transocean Arctic drilling rig. Capricorn has already secured a safety consent from the country’s offshore watchdog to use the rig for this well.

The drilling program for well 6508/1-3 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 758 in a prospect named Lynghaug. Capricorn Norge is the operator with an ownership interest of 50 percent, and other licensees are Skagen44 with 30 percent and Lundin Norway with 20 percent.

The area in this license consists of parts of blocks 6508/1, 6608/10 and 6608/11. The well will be drilled about six kilometres southeast of the Norne field.

Production licence 758 was awarded on February 7, 2014, in APA 2013. This is the first exploration well to be drilled in the license.

Lynghaug is expected to be spud in the third quarter of 2019.
