German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has handed over Spirit of Discovery to the British cruise company Saga Cruises.
The delivery ceremony for the 236-meter-long newbuild, which is intended for the British market, took place on June 24.
Last month, the 58,250 GT Spirit of Discovery left Meyer Werft to travel up the River Ems, out to the open sea.
Following the river conveyance, the 999-passenger small cruise ship underwent sea trials in the North Sea.
This environmentally-friendly vessel is now expected to reach Dover on June 28 before its naming ceremony scheduled for July 5 and its maiden voyage a few days later.
Earlier this month, the keel laying for Spirit of Adventure, Spirit of Discovery’s sister ship, was celebrated at Meyer Werft. The second vessel ordered by Saga is slated for delivery in summer 2020.
Saga’s Spirit of Discovery is the second newbuild completed by Meyer Werft in 2019, following the delivery of Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum of the Seas in April.
Norwegian Encore is the third vessel built by Meyer Werft and expected to be delivered in autumn 2019.
The shipbuilder plans to complete another three cruise ships in 2020.
