The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Capricorn Norge, a Norwegian subsidiary of Cairn Energy, a drilling permit for a well in the Norwegian Sea.

The well, designated 6608/11-9, will be drilled from the Transocean Arctic semi-submersible drilling rig after completing the drilling of the 16/1-31 S well with an optional sidetrack in the central part of the Norwegian Sea.

The drilling program for the well relates to drilling a wildcat well in production license 842. Capricorn Norge is the operator with an ownership interest of 40 percent with Skagen44 and Pandion Energy with a 30 percent stake each.

The area in this license consists of parts of blocks 6608/10, 6608/11, and 6608/12. The well will be drilled about 13 kilometers northeast of the Norne field.

The license was awarded on February 5, 2016, in APA 2015. This is the first exploration well to be drilled in the license.

Earlier this month , Capricorn Norge received two consents from the Petroleum Safety Authority. One of the two consents was for the 6608/11-9 well, otherwise named Godalen. The other consent was for the 6508/1-3 well in a prospect named Lynghaug.

It is worth reminding that Capricorn awarded a two-well contract in the Norwegian North Sea to the Transocean Arctic rig. The work was scheduled to start in May and end in July 2019.

As for the schedule for the two wells , Lynghaug is expected to be spud in the third quarter of 2019 while Godalen is expected to be spud in the fourth quarter of 2019.
