Mexico’s Grupo R has started drilling the Xikín – 32 marine well, becoming the first company to start the offshore drilling works of the program promoted by the new administration of Pemex Exploration and Production (PEP).
The Xikín field is the first of the 16 marine fields that PEP is scheduled to develop to increase the oil production of the State Productive Enterprise, the company said on Thursday.
To carry out these tasks, Grupo R mobilized the Cantarell IV jack-up drilling rig, the newest in its fleet.
Namely, Singapore’s Keppel FELS completed and delivered the jack-up rig Cantarell IV to Grupo R last February. The rig arrived in Mexico on April 20, 2019, and began drilling operations at 0:00 hours on July 1, 2019. The contract is valid until March 2021.
Grupo R is a conglomerate of 100% Mexican companies with more than 60 years in the national oil industry. The company explores the most offshore wells for Pemex under the modality of integral services.
The Cantarell IV is a KFELS B Class jack-up designed to operate in water depths of up to 400 feet and drill to depths of 30,000 feet.
It is equipped with an advanced and fully-automated high capacity rack, pinion jacking system, Self-Positioning Fixation System, and also has accommodation with for 150 persons.
