DP Energy Deploys ADCP for Uisce Tapa Tidal Project at FORCE

DP Energy, working with Seaforth Geosurveys and Applied Renewables Research (ARR), has recently deployed Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) as a key step in the development of the Uisce Tapa tidal energy project.

The deployment took place in the Berth E at the Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) site in the Minas Passage, Canada.

These ADCPs will be collecting data over the next month to gather information on the current flows at the specific project site.

The devices will be retrieved in August, with analysis of the data expected to complete by the end of September 2019.

New project manager, Sarah Thomas said: “The deployment went absolutely seamlessly, with all three devices being in position within a couple of hours. We were delighted to be working with the very professional teams from Seaforth and ARR which made the whole process very simple and professional.

“DP Energy remains ready to take on the exciting challenges provided by the tidal resource in the Bay of Fundy and expects that development of the FORCE Berths will be a significant stepping stone enabling tidal energy to take its appropriate place amongst the other ‘core’ renewable energy sources of wind and solar.”
