The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Aker BP a drilling permit for well 2/1-17 S located in the North Sea offshore Norway.
The well 2/1-17 S will be drilled from the Maersk Interceptor jack-up drilling rig, the NPD said on Thursday.
The drilling program for well 2/1-17 S relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production license 019 C.
Aker BP is the operator with an ownership interest of 80 percent and its partner is MOL Norge with a 20 percent interest.
The area in this license consists of parts of block 2/1. The well will be drilled about ten kilometers southeast of the Gyda field.
Production license 019 C was awarded on September 14, 1998. This is the first well to be drilled in the license.
