New Hampshire Senator, Jeanne Shaheen, toured the Rye Harbor yesterday, confirming that she will continue to push for more dredging operations in this area.

“Local businesses and the fishing industry need Rye Harbor to be dredged. This has been a priority of mine and I stopped by today to meet with local leaders and discuss efforts to move this project forward,” said the senator during the visit.

Shaheen, joined by a representative from the Army Corps of Engineers, toured the harbor with town and port officials Monday afternoon, as well as residents and business owners who use the harbor. They told her how shoaling has made water increasingly shallow and threatened the harbor’s future.

The harbor was last dredged in 1990.
