IRENA’s event “Unlocking the potential of ocean energy around the globe”, organised in partnership with the Ocean Energy Europe, will complement and continue the OEE2019 programme.

The event features sessions with national and regional representatives from all corners of the globe and key experts in ocean energy to discuss the latest progress in this field.

It aims at jointly identifying the most relevant gaps and future work in order to secure the industrial rollout of ocean energy projects in the near future.

Furthermore, the sessions will explore potential markets within the island context and present benefits and challenges, as well as past and present experiences regarding the deployment of ocean energy infrastructure across Small Islands Developing States (SIDS). T

he event will showcase IRENA’s Light House initiative, a framework for action to support SIDS in their transformation to a renewables-based and resilient energy system.

The key outcome of this event will be delivered through a final roundtable where stakeholders of the ocean energy sector will identify key actions that need to be taken by policy-makers to foster ocean energy technology across the world and shape the ocean energy agenda for continued support to the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.

The event takes place 1 October 14:30 – 17:30 & 2 October 9:00 – 15:00 at the CCD.
