EDP Renewables has called on the offshore wind industry to work together to promote supply chain opportunities in the sector for regional businesses in the North of Scotland.
At an event held by the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), EDPR Director Dan Finch urged the offshore wind industry to work in close partnership with the private and public sector to ensure that the opportunities for the North Scotland’s supply chain are realized.
“In order to deliver large scale commercial contracts from the north and north east of Scotland we need to work together to realise the opportunities for regional businesses. The Cluster should benefit from the strong history of the oil and gas sector in the region,” Finch said.
“Other areas of the UK have responded well to renewables development and benefitted massively in return. These opportunities lie in Scotland and we are determined for them to be realised.”
To remind, EDPR and Engie signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in May to create a joint-venture in fixed and floating offshore wind.
The companies will combine their offshore wind assets and project pipeline, starting with a total of 1.5GW under construction and 4GW under development, with the target of reaching 5GW to 7GW of projects in operation or construction and 5GW to 10GW under advanced development by 2025.
