Equinor has secured funding of up to NOK 2.3 billion (circa EUR 231.5 million) from Enova for the Hywind Tampen floating wind project in Norway.

“The support that the licences have received for the Hywind Tampen project demonstrates the will of Norwegian authorities to invest in and develop floating offshore wind farms and renewable energy supplies,” said Pål Eitrheim , Executive Vice President for New Energy Solutions in Equinor.

“With this support we have taken an important step forward in realising the project. Now it is up to the licences to further mature the project towards a final investment decision this autumn.”

Hywind Tampen could become the world’s first offshore wind farm directly connected to oil & gas platforms, as Equinor and its partners at Gullfaks and Snorre decided to explore the possibilities of supplying the five platforms at the oil & gas fields with floating wind power.

The project will feature 11 8MW turbines which will have a combined capacity of 88MW, and may meet about 35% of the annual power demand of the Snorre A and B, and Gullfaks A, B and C platforms.

In September last year, Hywind Tampen also secured an investment grant of up to NOK 566 million from the NOx Fund.
