NKT, Energinet, and National Grid have signed the final contract documents for the supply of onshore power cables for the 1,400MW Viking Link interconnector.

Under the contract valued at around EUR 90 million, NKT will deliver approximately 150 kilometres of 525kV MI high-voltage DC onshore power cables for the project connecting the Danish and British power transmission grids.

The power cable system, not comprising civil works, delivered by NKT constitutes the approximately 75-kilometre connection of the project from Danish shore to the power grid substation in Revsing, southern Jutland.

The cables will be manufactured in Karlskrona, Sweden, with the production start expected in 2020.

When completed, Viking Link will be a 760-kilometre long DC interconnector line between Revsing in southern Jutland, Denmark, and Bicker Fen in Lincolnshire, UK.

The interconnector line is expected to be fully commissioned in 2023.
