PGNiG Upstream Norway, a Norwegian unit of the Polish state-owned company PGNiG, has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to drill an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea, using the Deepsea Nordkapp rig.

The well 6507/5-9 S is located in production license 838 and the drilling location is around 9 kilometers south of Skarv and 24 kilometers northeast of Heidrun.

The well 6507/5-9 S is named Shrek. Water depth at the site is 358 meters.

The safety agency said on Monday that the drilling is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2019, and is expected to last for 49 days.

The company has already received a drilling permit for the well from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).

The well will be drilled by Deepsea Nordkapp , which is a semi-submersible drilling rig of the Moss Maritime CS 60E type, owned and operated by Odfjell Drilling.

The rig received Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in April 2019.
