On August 24, Turkish Cemre Shipyard launched the hull of a new ferry being built for Norwegian transportation company Fjord1.
The hull number 144 will be towed to Leirvik for fitting out, testing and completion. Scheduled for delivery to Fjord1 in January 2020, the newbuild will be deployed in the Sandvika – Edøya service.
It is the 50th hull built by Cemre for Havyard under a collaboration between the two companies which started with the signing of the first hull construction contract in August 2005.

“At the time, Cemre was a company that rented premis es for painting ships in other shipyards, which is how we met. We immediately hit it off and agreed that we would work together,” Geir Johan Bakke, CEO of Havyard Group, said.
“The development both companies have seen since 2005 would not have been possible without this successful collaboration, and our relationship will be more and more important going forward as we take on the challenges the Norwegian shipbuilding industry is currently facing.”
Havyard has signed a contract for the delivery of another seven hulls from Cemre. This is in addition to the six vessels of Havyard design that are under construction and are to be delivered as complete vessels.
