Last week, the keel laying of the two custom-built 29,190kW heavy-duty rock cutter suction dredgers for the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority (SCA), took place at Royal IHC’s shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel.
The vessels, named MOHAB MAMEESH and 26th OF JULY, will have an overall length of 147.4 meters and provide a maximum dredging depth of 35 meters.
In addition, they will offer accommodation facilities for 73 people. Equipped with one submerged – and two inboard – dredge pumps, the installed cutter power will be 4,800kW.
According to IHC, the CSDs have been specifically designed in close cooperation with SCA, and will be used to maintain and improve the artificial sea-level area that connects the Mediterranean and Red Seas.
These custom-built CSDs are set for delivery in 2020.
Alongside the delivery of the CSDs to SCA, an extensive IHC training program will be provided, as well as a CSD simulator and a large package of spare parts.
