BW Energy has encountered hydrocarbons at the Hibiscus Updip prospect on its Dussafu Marin permit located offshore Gabon. A side-track well will be drilled following well logging operations.
BW Energy, a subsidiary of FPSO operator BW Offshore, is the operator of the Dussafu permit.
BW started drilling the Hibiscus Updip well (DHIBM-1) in mid-August, using the Borr Norve jack-up drilling rig. The well is located about 56 km offshore Gabon in 116 m water depth.
The primary objective of the DHIBM-1 exploration well is to identify additional resources in the greater Ruche area, which will be aggregated with the existing Ruche and Ruche North East discoveries and form the basis for future development phases.
BW said in its half-year 2019 report on Friday that the main well bore had been completed and hydrocarbons encountered.
According to the company, well logging operations are ongoing together with planning for drilling of a side-track. This will be the first drilling operation in a campaign that includes four production wells in the Tortue field and a second exploration well, the location of which will be determined later this year following receipt and interpretation of re-processed 3D seismic data.
Following completion of operations at DHIBM-1 the rig will be mobilized to the Tortue field, BW added.
In related news, a recent, independent report by auditor Netherland, Sewell & Associates Inc. (NSAI) of the Dussafu Marine Permit confirmed increased reserves at the Dussafu Production Sharing Contract (PSC). The 2P gross reserves at Dussafu PSC have increased by 31.2 MMbbls, or 89%, compared to those reported at year-end 2018.
