Norwegian shipowner MPC Container Ships (MPCC) and Hamburg-based Ahrenkiel Steamship have joined the Trident Alliance, a network of shipping companies and other stakeholders working together for effective enforcement of sulphur regulations.

As members of the alliance, the two companies have committed to comply with the new IMO 2020 maritime sulphur regulations and support effective and transparent enforcement of these rules.

“MPC Container Ships is pleased to be committed to complying with the new sulphur rules,” Constantin Baack, CEO of MPC Container Ships, said.

“Joining the Trident Alliance allows us to align our company with an important network of like-minded industry peers, and support industry-wide calls for effective and transparent enforcement around the world.”

“We look forward to joining forces with our peers who share our commitment to effective, transparent enforcement of IMO 2020,” Dr. Michael Silies, CEO of Ahrenkiel Steamship, added.

The Trident Alliance expects momentum for its mission and advocacy efforts to continue as the industry and regulators continue to tighten their focus on the many practicalities of compliance and enforcement, Roger Strevens, the Chairman of The Trident Alliance and VP of global sustainability at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, explained.
