Japanese imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) have dropped again in August after a brief rise the previous month.
According to the provisional data released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance, a total of 6.10 million tons of the chilled fuel were imported into Japan during the month under review, 19.4 percent below the amount imported in August 2018.
The value of August LNG imports was about $3.16 billion, sliding 23.3 percent on year.
The data shows that imports of US LNG jumped 35.2 percent, reaching 345,000 tonnes. Imports from Asian sources such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Brunei slipped 32.1 percent compared to the corresponding month in 2018, reaching 1.11 million tonnes.
Imports of liquefied natural gas from the Middle East were 36 percent below the corresponding month in 2018 reaching 1.40, while LNG imports from Russia jumped 11.2 reaching 583,000 tonnes.
The country’s coal imports for power generation stands at 8.93 million tonnes, 20.5 percent more than the corresponding month in 2018.
