Japan’s Inpex is preparing to undertake geotechnical and geophysical surveys at the Ichthys field located offshore Australia. The company has submitted an environment plan for the surveys to Australian authorities.
Inpex, on behalf of the Ichthys Upstream Unincorporated Joint Venture Participants, is developing the Ichthys field in the Browse Basin off the north-west coast of Western Australia to produce condensate offshore for export to markets in Japan and elsewhere, and export gas for further processing at the Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Darwin.
The Ichthys field is located within the area covered by production license WA-50-L, in the northern Browse Basin, approximately 210 km north-west of the coast of mainland Western Australia and 820 km south-west of Darwin. Water depths range from 235 to 275 m.
Inpex is preparing to expand the capacity with further development of the Ichthys field.
In support of this expansion, Inpex is proposing to undertake pre-engineering survey activities in WA-50-L comprising of combined geotechnical and geophysical survey scopes. The company submitted the environment plan for the surveys to Australian regulator NOPSEMA on Thursday, September 19, 2019.
The survey activities will be undertaken between 4Q 2019 and 2Q 2020, noting that the exact timing for start and completion will be dependent upon approvals, vessel availability, operational efficiencies, and weather conditions.
Inpex also last week submitted its environment plan for the Ichthys development drilling campaign WA-50-L – Phase 2 to NOPSEMA. The campaign will consist of the drilling, completion, and flow back of at least 12-15 additional development wells within production license WA-50-L and it includes the potential for workovers and well intervention of existing and planned development wells.
