Hurricane Energy has started drilling the third and final well in its Greater Warwick Area campaign located in the West of Shetland area off the UK.
According to Hurricane’s statement, the 204/30b-A (Warwick West) well was spudded on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, using the Transocean Leader semi-submersible rig.
Warwick West is the third and final well of the 2019 Greater Warwick Area drilling program on Hurricane’s Lincoln and Warwick assets.
Warwick Deep was the first in the three-well program on Hurricane’s Lincoln and Warwick assets. It was spud in mid-April and completed at the beginning of July with disappointing results . The well did not flow at commercial rates producing a mixture of drilling brine, water, oil and gas.
The Lincoln Crestal well, the second well in the three-well program, was spudded in mid-July . In early September, a drill stem test on the Lincoln Crestal well produced oil to surface, resulting in a flare. Several days later, Hurricane reported that the results of testing of the Lincoln Crestal well had confirmed the presence of light oil , which can be produced at commercial rates. The well will be tied-back to the Aoka Mizu FPSO next year.
Hurricane has a 50% interest in the Greater Warwick Area following Spirit Energy’s farm-in to the P1368 South and P2294 licences in September 2018.
Spirit Energy and Hurricane committed to a work program, which envisaged first oil on the GWA by 2020 and the final investment decision (FID) on the first phase of a full field development by 2021. Spirit Energy will ultimately take on the role of GWA license operator, following successful drilling during 2019 and 2020.
