The Canadian government is investing CAD 1.4 million (USD 1 million) in a project that will help the Port of Montreal port operator reduce greenhouse gas emissions during container handling.
Under the project, Termont Montreal will transform its entire fleet into diesel-electric hybrid vehicles.
Following a pilot project that took place between April 1 and October 19, 2018, Termont Montreal is now transforming 57 additional terminal tractors to reduce the port’s ecological impact, as CO2 emissions decreased by 26 % and engine use by 46%.
“We are happy to be part of this announcement. Effenco’s innovative technology adopted by Termont Montreal’s vehicles plays a major role in the Port’s strategy to reduce its ecological impacts,” Sylvie Vachon, President of the Port of Montreal, said.
“We are pleased that the Quebec government supports our efforts and very proud to be the first port operator in the world to be converting its entire fleet into hybrid vehicles, thus helping our communities flourish in a real way, ” Madeleine Paquin, President of Termont Montreal Inc., said.
