Worldwide offshore rig count in September up 43 rigs year-over-year

The worldwide offshore rig count in September 2019 decreased by four units sequentially, but increased by 43 units year-over-year, according to reports by Baker Hughes, a GE company.

The worldwide offshore rig count in September 2019 decreased by four units sequentially, but increased by 43 units year-over-year, according to reports by Baker Hughes, a GE company.

BHGE splits its rig counts into international and North America rig counts, which combined make the worldwide rig count.

Baker Hughes reported on Monday that international rig count for September 2019 was 1,131, down 7 from the 1,138 counted in August 2019, and up 127 from the 1,004 counted in September 2018.

The international offshore rig count for September 2019 was 242, down 2 from the 244 counted in August 2019, and up 38 from the 204 counted in September 2018.

Looking at separate regions, Asia Pacific region had the highest number of offshore rigs during September 2019, totaling 93 units. This is down one rig from 92 in August 2019 and up 11 rigs from August 2018.

In the Middle East region, there were 55 rigs during September 2019, up 2 from August 2019 and up 7 from September 2018.

Europe took the third place in the offshore rig count for September 2019 with 42 active units followed by Latin America with 31 and Africa with 21 active units.

In North America , the offshore rig count in September 2019 was 27, down two rigs from August 2019 and up 5 rigs from September 2018.

The average U.S. rig count for September 2019 was 878, down 48 from the 926 counted in August 2019, and down 175 from the 1,053 counted in September 2018.

The average Canadian rig count for September 2019 was 132, down 10 from the 142 counted in August 2019, and down 69 from the 201 counted in September 2018.

The worldwide rig count for September 2019 was 2,141, down 65 from the 2,206 counted in August 2019, and down 117 from the 2,258 counted in September 2018.

The worldwide offshore rig count for September 2019 was 269, down 4 from 273 in August 2019, and up 43 rigs from 226 in September 2018.
