Dutch shipping company Spliethoff recently signed a contract with China’s Mawei Shipyard for the construction of two DP2 B-type vessels.

As informed, the first of the two newbuilds is expected to be delivered in autumn 2021.

The ship duo will combine the intake of a multi-purpose vessel with a DP2, the station-keeping ability of up to Bft 6, making it suitable for supplying large volumes and heavy cargo directly offshore.

Additionally, each of the vessels will have a removable, automated, pipe-handling gantry crane installed which would enable efficient loading and discharge of pipes, both onshore and offshore.

The B-type is also equipped with two 500 mt heavy lift mast cranes, making the vessel capable for both heavy lift transportation and offshore installation.

According to Spliethoff, the newbuilds will be fuel-efficient and their propulsion and power generation systems will be equipped with scrubbers and SCR systems.

The 12,500 dwt ships will have an open top notation, more than 2,875 square meters of cargo deck space and 5,700 square meters of total deck space.
