Denmark’s Rønne Harbour on the Island of Bornholm is ready to receive the wind turbines for Vattenfall’s 605MW Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm after completing the necessary upgrades.
The Rønne Harbour was selected as the departure point for the 72 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines in June 2018.
To enable the project execution, Rønne Havn A/S started port upgrades which included a 150,000m2 expansion, an increase of the water depth to 11 metres, a new external wave breaker, a 300-metre-long multi-purpose terminal, as well as a heavy duty Ro-Ro rental.
Aarsleff, the main contractor on the expansion project, officially handed over the newly built area to Rønne Havn A/S earlier this month.
The Kriegers Flak offshore wind project is currently undergoing an additional Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure carried out by the Danish Energy AgencY (DEA).
DEA expects to grant the final approval for the project in January 2020. In accordance with the concession agreement signed in December 2016, the Kriegers Flak project must be connected to the grid before 1 January 2022.
