French engineering company Eiffage has awarded a contract to Norwegian vessel owner Boa Offshore for transportation and float-off of 21 concrete caissons for the BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim field development in Mauritania and Senegal.
Boa said on Monday that each of the 21 caissons weighed around 16,000 tonnes. They will be main elements of the breakwater for the near-shore Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG hub marine terminal.
According to the company, Boa’s scope of work requires major modifications to the semi-submersible barge BOA Barge 33 to submerge to a depth of 21 meters above deck.
Boa will also design, fabricate, and install guide posts, grillage, and skidding beams, as well as provide two highly maneuverable tugs throughout the project, namely the BOA Brage and BOA Heimdal.
The company will also conduct extensive engineering and operational services during both planning and execution.
Boa added that the operational team at the site during the contract period would consist of 16-18 persons from the company.
The contract began in July 2019 with an operational phase in Dakar from March 2020 for a minimum duration of six months.
It is worth reminding that Eiffage, together with Saipem, won a contract for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) work on BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim field located offshore Mauritania and Senegal back in March .
Also, McDermott was awarded a sizeable fabrication subcontract for work on the project last week . The work is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2019 and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2020 in McDermott’s fabrication facility in Indonesia.
