Brazilian oil company Petrobras has reportedly managed to sell the ultra-deepwater drillship Vitoria 10000 after its first auction received no bids.

According to the Norwegian rig broker Bassoe Offshore, the drillship was sold earlier this week for around $15 million.

“The second auction for the Petrobras-owned drillship, Vitoria 10000, the highest bid was $15.05 million. The name of the highest bidder is not yet disclosed, but indications point to a sale for recycling purposes,” Bassoe Offshore said in a note on Wednesday.

As previously reported, the company had tried to sell the 2010-built rig at an auction in September . The minimum starting bid had been set at $47 million. No bids were submitted, forcing Petrobras to organize the second auction, lowering the starting bid to $5 million, with $1 million „intervals“ set between bids.

The Vitoria 10000 is 227,8 meters long, with a breadth of 42 meters built by Samsung Heavy Industries in 2010. It can accommodate 199 people and has a maximum drilling depth capacity of 11430 meters. It is capable of drilling in a water depth of up to 3048 meters. However, if Bassoe’s report is correct, none of these capabilities will matter as the rig is slated for the scrapyard.
