Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) to consent to drill an exploration well in the North Sea using the West Hercules rig.
The well 35/10-5 belongs to production license 827S where Equinor is the operator.
The well has been given the prospect name of Gabriel. Water depth at the site is 367 metres.
The safety authority said on Monday that the well would be drilled using the West Hercules drilling rig, which is owned and operated by Seadrill.
The West Hercules is a 6th-generation semi-submersible drilling rig built in 2008 at Daewoo Shipyard, South Korea. The rig received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in 2012.
