China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding has handed over the first of four newbuilding conventional LNG carriers, built for the Yamal LNG Project, to its owners.
According to social media posts, the 174,000 cbm LNG Dubhe was delivered on November 6. The Hudong shipyard held a naming ceremony for the unit in September 2019.
The unit was ordered by Japan’s shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and China COSCO Shipping in late June 2017.
MOL earlier said that the 295-meter-long LNG carrier would start LNG transportation services for Yamal LNG following delivery.
The vessel will carry LNG from transshipment terminals in Europe or a location where ship-to-ship transfer operations are carried out, according to MOL.
MOL delivered three ice-breaking LNG carriers to the project between 2018 and 2019, which are currently engaged in LNG transportation in the Northern Sea Route.
