Mammoet has reached an agreement with Port of Coeymans Marine Terminal in Coeymans, New York which allows the heavy lift specialist access to the port’s 400-acre marine terminal facility.
According to Mammoet, the State of New York is ramping up for upcoming offshore wind projects in the area and is investing in upgrades to the Port of Coeymans’ facilities and infrastructure. Such projects will require offshore wind components to be manufactured and transported.
With the agreement, Mammoet can offer storage options, load in and load out options, local barge supply, assistance with offshore wind endeavors and local projects in the East USA area, the company said.
Mammoet’s CC 2800, a 660-ton capacity crawler crane, is stationed on-site to provide heavy lift services inside the port facility, and auxiliary equipment for staging and storage is also available onsite.
The State of New York plans to develop 9GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035.
In July, the state’s Governor Andrew Cuomo announced New York’s first two offshore wind projects – Empire Wind and Sunrise Wind – totalling nearly 1,700MW, representing the single large renewable energy procurement by any state in US history.
Combined, the projects, are expected to create more than 1,600 jobs and result in USD 3.2 billion in economic activity including major investments to upgrade existing New York ports in downstate New York and up the Hudson River to the Capital Region.
