CNOOC elects new chief executive officer

Oil and natural gas producer CNOOC has promoted its executive director and president to the position of the chief executive officer.

Oil and natural gas producer China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has promoted its executive director and president to the position of the chief executive officer (CEO).

CNOOC said that its executive director and president Xu Keqiang was appointed as the CEO of the company with effect from November 19.

Keqiang replaced former chairman and CEO Yang Hua , who was removed from the position by the Chinese government in September.

Yang took over the role of the general manager, director, and deputy party secretary of China’s chemical manufacturer and trader Sinochem.

He worked for CNOOC since 1982 and became the chief executive officer of the company in June 2015 .

As for Xu Keqiang, he joined CNPC in 1996 and served different positions. Xu was appointed as the vice president of CNOOC.

From April 2017 to June 2018, he served as the chairman of Nexen Energy, a subsidiary of the company, and between May 2017 and June 2018, he served as the chairman of a subsidiary of the company-CNOOC International Limited.

In May 2017, Xu was appointed as a director of CNOOC China and became the general manager of CNOOC China with effect from May 21.

Xu was appointed as an executive director and the president of CNOOC Limited on April 18, 2017.
