Dutch LNG supplier Titan LNG has completed the first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in the Port of Ghent, Belgium.
The operation, carried out in cooperation with the North Sea Port , was completed on November 19, 2019.
Titan LNG delivered around 150 tons of LNG to the 20,217 cbm Fure Valo, an LNG powered tanker owned by the Swedish company Furetank.
“This LNG bunkering marks the expansion of LNG delivery in the ports of Europe. We are very pleased with the support of North Sea Port, to fulfill our mission to make LNG available everywhere,” Eric de Jong, Manager Logistics Titan LNG, commented.
“We are proud to have safely and efficiently delivered this ship-to-ship bunkering for the first time in Ghent,” he added.
In October last year, Titan LNG also conducted the first truck-to-ship bunkering operation of that scale in the Port of Ghent. At Kluizendok, LNG was pumped to the tanker Fure West from trucks on the quay. The ship was supplied by 8 trucks carrying about 19 tons of LNG each, a total of over 150 tons of LNG.
“North Sea Port stimulates sustainable solutions. The transportation by water is an important element. Bunkering by barge saves several steps in the trajectory by road, therefore making ship-to-ship more efficient. Plus LNG is a cleaner fuel for shipping, that reduces emissions of CO2 and sulphur,” the North Sea Port said.
