Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) jumped 12 percent in October when compared to the corresponding month last year, according to the monthly data by the LNG terminal operator Enagás.
LNG imports reached some 19.3 terawatt-hours (TWh) in October 2019 as compared to 17.3 TWh in October 2018.
Total natural gas imports, including piped supplies, edged up 9.8 percent to 37.5 TWh. Pipeline supplies from Algeria edged 5 percent up to 13 TWh, as compared to 12.4 TWh the previous year.
Top LNG supplier to Spain during the month of October 2019 was the United States with 5.3 TWh, followed by Russia with 3.2 TWh.
Spain imported 3.1 TWh of LNG from Peru, 2.9 TWh of LNG from Nigeria, and 2.1 TWh from Qatar. Algeria supplied an additional 1.6 TWh with Norway adding 0.92 TWh.
Huelva and Bilbao facilities received six LNG shipments each, amounting to 12 cargoes out of the total 20 delivered to Spain during the month under review.
Barcelona facility received three LNG cargoes while two cargoes were delivered to Sagunto and Mugardos plants with the single remaining cargo landing at Cartagena.
A single reload operation has been carried out in Spain during October 2019, at the Huelva facility.
