Vattenfall has opted for the Siemens Gamesa 11MW turbines for the Hollandse Kust Zuid 1-4 offshore wind farms in the Netherlands.
The Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm zone is planned to be fitted with circa 140 units of Siemens Gamesa’s upgraded version of the Direct Drive turbine SG DD-193, which features the ability to reach a capacity of 11MW.
This capacity upgrade, available under certain site conditions, means that fewer turbines are needed to generate the same amount of energy, which will reduce installation and O&M costs and thus contribute to further reductions in Levelized Cost of Energy (LCoE) for offshore wind, Vattenfall said.
Installation is planned for 2022, with the projects expected to be fully operational in 2023.

The newest version of our largest offshore Direct Drive machine is now setting the benchmark for turbines in subsidy-free offshore wind power projects,” said Andreas Nauen , CEO of the Siemens Gamesa Offshore Business Unit.
Siemens Gamesa yesterday launched the new SG 11.0-193 DD Flex offshore wind turbine and its DD Flex concept.
The SG 11.0-193 DD Flex turbine features a 193m diameter rotor using the 94m long Siemens Gamesa B94 Integral Blades. Constant digital observations are processed by the control system, increasing capacity up to 11MW.
To remind, Vattenfall won the tender last year to build Hollandse Kust Zuid 1&2, which is the first non-subsidised wind farm in the Netherlands. This summer, the company won the tender , also without subsidies, to develop the Hollandse Kust Zuid 3&4.
