Malaysia’s Petronas has named its second Floating LNG unit – the PFLNG DUA – at a ceremony held at Samsung Heavy Industries.

The FLNG is designed to extract gas from deepwater gas reservoirs in depths up to 1,500 meters and will be Petronas’ second FLNG unit in operation after the company brought online the PFLNG SATU in 2017.

The construction of the PFLNG DUA started in 2015. The vessel is expected to be completed soon, with sailaway scheduled for February 2020.

Petronas’ CEO Wan Zulkiflee said that PFLNG DUA was a key solution by Petronas to monetize stranded deepwater gas fields in a safe, economical and sustainable manner.

The 393-meters long FLNG DUA will be moored over the Rotan Gas Field at a water depth of 1,300 meters, located 140km offshore Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, with the capacity to produce 1.5 million tonnes of LNG per year.
