Singapore-based PSA Marine and its Taiwanese partner, Ta Tong Marine, have formed a joint venture company, Ventus Marine, to service a long-term contract awarded by Siemens Gamesa for the Formosa 1 offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

The charter commenced on 1 November and is served by a 26-metre, 12-pax CTV Ventus Beigang. Ventus Beigang is registered under the Taiwan Flag and has obtained both Bureau Veritas and CR classifications.

Ventus Marine will leverage the UK crew transfer vessel operator Njord Offshore’s experience for the operations in Taiwan.

Ventus Beigang is fully manned by Taiwanese crew who had undergone a series of on-the-job training conducted in Europe and Taiwan by Njord Offshore’s Masters.

Peter Chew , Managing Director of PSA Marine, said: “We are excited to expand our presence in the Taiwan offshore wind market. With a strong local partner, committed management team and crew, we are confident of delivering safe and reliable service to our customers.”

The 128MW Formosa 1 is Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm. It consists of the 8MW Formosa 1 Phase 1 , which was inaugurated in May 2017, and the 120MW Formosa 1 Phase 2 which was officially commissioned earlier this month. The wind farm comprises two Siemens Gamesa 4MW turbines and twenty Siemens Gamesa 6MW turbines.
