The Canada Energy Regulator (CER) has approved an application from Chevron Canada to export LNG for a term of 40 years from the proposed Kitimat project.

In April this year, Chevron and its project partner Woodside Energy International filed an application with the CER, seeking a permit to export 28.23 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year for a 40-year term.

The proposed Kitimat LNG terminal will consist of a natural gas liquefaction plant and the associated infrastructure and port facilities, including natural gas delivery, liquefaction, LNG storage, and LNG send-out facilities inclusive of marine off-loading.

The Kitimat LNG plant includes up to three LNG trains totaling 18 million tonnes per annum (6.0 MTPA/train), and is an all-electric plant powered by, renewable hydroelectricity from BC Hydro.

The Kitimat LNG terminal project will also consist of an approximately 17-kilometer pipeline that will connect the LNG terminal to existing or new natural gas pipeline infrastructure in Kitimat BC.
