The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted ConocoPhillips a drilling permit for a well in the North Sea offshore Norway.

The directorate said on Sunday that the well 25/7-9 S would be drilled from the Leiv Eiriksson semi-submersible drilling rig.

ConocoPhillips has already secured a safety consent from the Norwegian safety watchdog to use the Leiv Eiriksson rig for exploration drilling in block 25/7. The well has been given the prospect name of Hasselbaink.

The drilling program for well 25/7-9 S relates to the drilling of wildcat wells in production license 917. ConocoPhillips is the operator with an ownership interest of 40 percent. Other licensees are Lundin Norway (20 percent), Suncor Energy (20 percent), and Vår Energi (20 percent).

The area in this license consists of part of blocks 25/7 and 25/10. The well will be drilled about 12 kilometers west of Ringhorne and 210 kilometers northwest of Stavanger.

Production license 917 was awarded on March 2, 2018, in APA 2017 on the Norwegian shelf. This is the second well to be drilled in the license.
