The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, is seeking public comment on the Proposed Plan for Environmental Restoration for the Tidal Flats and Outfall-008 drainage ditch sediments, a preferred mechanical dredging and on-site beneficial re-use of sediments alternative, at the Stratford Army Engine Plant Site in Stratford, CT.

A public comment period will run through December 13, 2019 and during this time, the public is encouraged to submit any comments on the Proposed Plan, USACE said.

They will host a Public Meeting on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Baldwin Center located at 1000 West Broad Street, Stratford, to present the Proposed Plan and take public comments.

The Stratford Army Engine Plant, located in the town of Stratford, was selected for closure under the Department of Defense Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) of 1995 (Public Law 101-510).

On behalf of the U.S. Army BRAC Office, USACE has implemented a focused feasibility study to develop alternatives for the remediation of the contaminated tidal flats and Outfall 0008 adjacent to the Site.

The volume of sediment requiring remediation is approximately 300,000 cubic yards.

A Focused Feasibility Study was completed in October 2018 and the Proposed Plan for Environmental Restoration was finished this month.
