The Hakuryu-5, a Japan Drilling Company-owned semi-submersible drilling rig, has started operations for Indonesian oil and gas company Medco.
JDC said last Friday, December 13 that the drilling rig Hakuryu-5 had started operations offshore Natuna, Indonesia on that day.
The Hakuryu-5 rig was awarded a contract for two firm wells, expected to take 123 days, by Medco in January 2019. Medco also got two option wells to extend the drilling contract, which should extend the deal for about 98 days.
According to Bassoe Offshore, the contract with Medco started in September 2019 and it is expected to end in February 2020. Bassoe estimates that the dayrate is around $100,000.
From May until September 2019 the rig worked for Rosneft offshore Vietnam . Bassoe’s dayrate estimate for this contract was $95,000.
The Hakuryu-5 is, a twin lower hull, column stabilized, propulsion-assisted semi-submersible drilling rig built in 1977 at Mitsubishi Hiroshima Shipyard.
In 2009, lower-hull was upgraded by installing “deep dish” for life enhancement, structural improvement, and increase of variable load.
In 2014, the accommodation was upgraded for 150 persons, deck cranes were replaced with new ones with larger capacities, and main drilling & ship service equipment were renewed.
