Nordic energy company Gasum has opened its first station in Kristianstad, part of its plan to build a network of 50 new gas filling stations for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) in the Nordics by early 2020s.

Kristianstad’s gas filling station is Gasum’s eighth station in Sweden, the company said in its statement.

“Expanding the gas filling station network along the main highways in Sweden enables more Swedish logistics companies to lower emissions and switch to LNG and LBG,” said Mikael Antonsson , director, traffic, Gasum Sweden.

The news about Kristianstad’s gas filling station has increased the interest in gas in the Skåne region, as Åhus-based Green L Equipment is aiming to get the company’s first gas truck as soon as possible.

The filling station will serve heavy-duty vehicles by offering liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (LBG) as a low-emission fuel.

In addition to expanding the gas filling station network, Gasum is focusing on biogas capacity increase. Gasum is building a biogas plant at Stora Enso’s Nymölla pulp & paper mill.
