Japan’s LNG imports slip in November

Japanese imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) slipped slightly in the month of November.

Japanese imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) slipped slightly in the month of November.

According to the provisional data released by Japan’s Ministry of Finance, a total of 6.27 million tons of the chilled fuel were imported into Japan during the month under review, 1.2 percent below the volumes imported in the corresponding month last year.

November LNG imports have been valued at $3 billion, 18.4 percent down on the value of LNG imports in November 2018.

The data shows that imports of US LNG jumped 155.3 percent, reaching 467,000 tonnes. Imports from Asian sources such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Brunei slipped 16.2 percent compared to the corresponding month in 2018, reaching 1.29 million tonnes.

Imports of liquefied natural gas from the Middle East were 9.5 percent below the corresponding month in 2018 reaching 1.25, while LNG imports from Russia jumped 18.7 percent reaching 588,000 tonnes.

The country’s coal imports for power generation stood at 8.87 million tonnes, dropping 12.4 percent below the corresponding month in 2018.
