The second floating wind platform of the WindFloat Atlantic project has set off from the Port of Ferrol in Spain towards Viana do Castelo in Portugal.

The second of the three platforms, which make up the 25MW project, will follow the same route from the Galician port to its final destination 20 kilometres off the Portuguese coast as the first structure which was installed at the site in October.

The structure comprises a floating platform developed by Principle Power and an MHI Vestas 8.4MW turbine, the largest wind turbine ever installed on a floating structure.

Once operational and with the installed capacity of 25MW, the wind farm will be able to generate enough energy to supply the equivalent of 60,000 users each year.

The WindFloat Atlantic project is led by the Windplus consortium comprising EDP Renewables (54.4%), Engie (25%), Repsol (19.4%), and Principle Power Inc. (1.2%).
