Axpo Deutschland has taken over the marketing of all the electricity produced by Global Tech I (GT I) offshore wind farm.

The German subsidiary of the Switzerland-based Axpo was previously marketing one-fourth of the offshore wind farm’s produced power. Now, the company is in charge of the overall power marketing, after winning the contract at the end of 2019.

The share marketed earlier corresponded to Axpo’s 24.1% stake in the 400MW Global Tech I offshore wind farm.

Johannes Pretel , Co-Head Origination Axpo Deutschland, said: “Axpo Deutschland was involved at GT I from the start as a marketer and was able to gain valuable experience in the direct marketing of offshore wind power over the years. The wind farm has steadily increased its performance over time. When the option to market all the GT I power came up, of course, we seized the opportunity.”

Global Tech I is the farthest offshore wind farm installed in German waters, located some 140 kilometers from Emden in the German Exclusive Economic Zone.

It consists of 80 5MW AREVA M5000-116 turbines that have been fully operational since 2015.

The offshore wind farm can generate approx. 1.5 million MWh of electricity per year and can supply power to up to 450,000 households.

In December 2019, the wind farm generated a record 8,800 MWh of electricity in a day. The last month was been exceptionally productive due to strong winds, allowing the turbines at the 400MW wind farm to deliver at maximum output, according to Global Tech I Offshore Wind GmbH..
